WED 6/1
The food here has been fine. I'll take a minute to discuss what I've experienced in the first week+. We mainly eat as a group in either the hotel or at the West African research center(which has an awesome kitchen). Monday night we drove to the shore and had seafood. My meal that night was gambas...large shrimp. We also feasted on dozens of little limpidlike things in the shell.,large amount of rice and a lemony, oniony sauce called Yassa. Almost always our choices are grilled chicken or fish. The fish is always tasty and fresh---often whole---reminds me of a Veracruz Mexican style. There are several vegetarians who usually get some grilled/stewed veggies and/or some creamy soup---sometimes veggie pizza. yesterday at WARC we dined on a really spicy chicken along with really fresh beets, green beans, and carrots. French fries are usually an option that I have been good about avoiding. yesterday my roommte bought some palm wine and shared with the group. Delicious.
Today we are rumoured to get Mafe----mutton in a peanut sauce at WARC.

My fave of all is a spicy jabanero based pepper sauce called Kaani(sp?). I put it on everything. Beer here is tasty if not sold a little bit warm....my brand of choice is called Gazelle which is flavourful and light.
I'll try to take some pictures though it pains me to do so---I am reminded of my Facebook aversion to food pics---but I'll try.
