Janet and I are in Oaxaca, Mexico for a spring break respite. I've been here many times when in my 20s---usually in transit to a surfing town over the mountains called Puerto Escondido. First trip through here was in 1983 with my friends John and Wook. We spent a couple of days here, going to the fabulous ruins of Monte Alban---then getting into an un-pressurized prop plane that was started like a lawn mower with a big rope on the propeller. I was less risk averse then I guess.

Bonaire

I am in Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean. Vacation only......to celebrate My 15 yr anniversary married to Janet. I've had my BUS 280 class in International Business trying to guess where I am. 3 have gotten it correct! With very obscure references! Here are some photos.

A small bit of very good news:

Dr. Maxim Mokeev(NOVALoudoun Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence) from SVRIA introduced me to one of his students this past February in Saratov. This young man, Rinat Kapev, eventually attended a few of my lectures the week I was there. While I cannot take ANY credit for the following---I am honored to say that Mr. Kapev recently received a Fulbright scholarship for 2017/18. My colleagues at SVRIA and I are very proud of him!Замечательно!

Yesterday evening, I was invited to Natalia Bobarykina's home for dinner, something I've always looked forward to. It is always a warm home, a bit out in the suburbs of Saratov, and I always I get along well with her husband Dmitri and her beautiful daughter Ksyusha. The international office sends a car for me! As I come down the stairs to meet my driver, he gets up, and there is another fellow next to him----another University motor pool driver---and it is Nikolai, my original driver from 2014. He took my wife Janet, her friend Laura, and I to Hvalinsk, the town of apples north of Saratov. Heeeyy Nikolai! We both break out into smiles and give each other a big hug. Makes me smile all evening. This is why I come back to Russia and why I love this place.
